NAPPING IN THE STORM

"After a storm, comes a calm" - Matthew Henry

A young man applied for a job as a farmhand. When the farmer asked for his qualifications, he said, "I can sleep through a storm." This puzzled the farmer; he liked the young man. So he hired him. A few weeks later, the farmer and his wife were awakened in the night by a violent storm ripping through the valley. He leapt out of bed and called for his new hired hand, but the young man was sleeping soundly. So they quickly began to check things to see if all was secure. They found that the shutters of the farmhouse had been securely fastened. A good supply of logs had been set next to the fireplace. The farmer and his wife then inspected their property. They found that the farm tools had been placed in the storage shed, safe. Even the bales of wheat had been bound and wrapped in tarpaulins. The tractor had been moved into its garage. The barn was properly locked tight. Even the animals were calm and had plenty of feed; all was well. The farmer then understood the meaning of the young man's words, "I can sleep through a storm."

Jesus asked his disciples to go with him on a journey, and then slept off in the midst of that trip; unperturbed. Was He unaware of the pending storms? Or was He just caught unawares? Yes, He was aware of the storms, and No, he wasn't caught unawares; He knew all things and knows all things. He knew the storm was going to show up, but he was prepared how? By ignoring it. Certain storms in our lives are still there today, because we haven't ignored them.

We're told that the devil is as a roaring lion. Not a roaring lion, so he cannot bite. He likes to seek attention by the storms he brings against you, so you can turn your focus from God, to him. As long as Jesus disciples concentrated on the raging storm the storms held sway, but the moment they turned focus to Jesus the storms stilled.

What storms are raging this minute in your life? Is it, financial, marital, professional, or spiritual. Does it bother on your health? I understand that our storms can appear so big sometimes that we lose sight of God's "bigness" in the process, but I come announce to you this morning, "your storm is only as big, until you turn to God. He's the Almighty God! Turn your gaze to Him, so you can, like the farmhand sleep through the storm." he's not unaware, neither is he surprised at the storm in your life. Jesus has got your back. This storm will not overflow you. Shalom!
