HE LOVES YOU STILL

"True love doesn't happen right away; it's an ever-growing process. It develops after you've gone through many ups and downs, when you've suffered together, cried together, laughed together." - Ricardo Montalban

Love

A young soldier fell in love with a lady. The soldier was from a poor family; the girl’s parents didn't like that very much. So the young soldier decided not only to court the girl but to court her parents as well. In time, the parents saw that he was a good man and was worthy of their daughter’s hand.

Another problem however, was that war broke out and he was sent overseas for a year. The week before he left, the man knelt on his knee and asked his love, “Will you marry me?” She agreed and they were engaged; they agreed that they would get married when he returned.

Tragedy struck a few days after he left, the girl had a major vehicular accident. It was a head-on collision. When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her father and mother crying. Immediately, she knew there was something wrong. She later found out that she suffered brain injury.

The part of her brain controlling her face muscles were affected. Her once lovely face was now disfigured. She cried when she saw herself in the mirror. “Yesterday, I was beautiful. Today, I’m a monster.” Her body was also covered with so many ugly wounds. Right there and then, she decided to release her fiancĂ© from their promise. She knew he wouldn’t want her anymore. She would forget about him and never see him again. For one year, the soldier wrote many letters - but she wouldn’t reply. He phoned her many times but she wouldn’t return her calls.

One year later, the mother walked into her room and announced, “He’s back from the war.” She shouted, “No! Please don’t tell him about me. Don’t tell him I’m in here!” “He’s getting married,” she said handing her a wedding invitation. Her heart sank. She just realized she still loved him - but she had to forget him now. She was devastated at the news, but she couldn't help it; she was a monster. With great sadness, she opened the wedding invitation. Confused, she asked, “What is this?” It was her name on the card!

The young soldier walked into her room with a bouquet of flowers. “Will you marry me?” He asked. With teary eyes she cried, “but I’m ugly!” He said, “Without your permission, I got your photos. I saw them and realized, nothing changed. You’re still the one I love. You’re still as beautiful as ever. Because I love you!”

Isn't it amazing how that so many times we write ourselves off by ourselves? We jump to conclusions, and make excuses (for others toward us) why we don't qualify for certain blessings or happiness; because of the things we might have been through. Most of the things we are afraid of in actual fact, are afraid of us, and would give way if we just try.

We shouldn't condemn ourselves, give up on love or life, for any reason. God hasn't given up on us yet, He isn't going to anytime soon. Lift your head high, walk tall and take pride in yourself. It's okay to fail, but not okay to feel like a failure.
