THE POWER OF ONE

"Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count." - Stella McCartney

Star Fish
Slowly, two men approached each other, on a desolate beach one morning. One could make out a figure of the other - a local native - who kept picking up, and throwing something back into the water. Time and again he hurled things into the ocean. As the distance between them got shorter, the other man could see that the native was hurling starfish that had been washed upon the beach and, back into the water one at a time. Puzzled, he approached and asked what the native was doing. "I’m throwing these starfish back into the ocean. These starfish have been washed ashore. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die."

"There must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly get all of them back in." He protested. "There are just too many. And this same thing is probably happening on hundreds of beaches on this coast. Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?" The native smiled, bent down and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea he replied, "I just made a difference to that one!"

TRUE PEARLS

"For it is in giving that we receive." - Francis of Assisi
True Pearls
Jenny, a five-year-old girl went to the grocery store with her mother when she saw a plastic pearl necklace priced at $2.50. How she wanted that necklace. "Well, it's a pretty necklace, but it costs an awful lot of money. I’ll tell you what. I’ll buy you the necklace, and when we get home we can make up a list of chore that you can do to pay for the necklace. And don’t forget that for your birthday Grandma just might give you a whole dollar bill, too. Okay?” They agreed and she got the pearl necklace. Jenny worked on her chores daily, and sure enough, her grandma gave her a dollar bill for her birthday. Soon Jenny had paid off her debt. Jenny loved those pearls. She wore them everywhere - to school, bed, everywhere. The only time she didn’t wear them was in the shower.

One night when her father finished reading her a story, he said, "Jenny, do you love me?"
"Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you," she replied.
"Well, then, give me your pearls."
"Oh! Daddy, not my pearls!" Jenny pleaded. "But you can have Rosie, my favorite doll. And you can have her tea party outfit, too. Okay?"
"Oh no, darling, that’s okay." Her father brushed her cheek with a kiss. "Good night, little one." A week later, her father once again asked Jenny after her story, but she refused. Several days later, he came in to read Jenny a story. She was sitting on her bed "Here,

THE MAN WITHOUT A FACE 1

"Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune." - William James

While earnestly waiting for a circus job, a handsome young man who'd just arrived America with his father from Australia, got a job at the local shipyards located on the most hideous part of town. On his way from work one evening he was attacked by thugs: five of them. They over powered him and beat him to a pulp. Boots to his face, clubs to his head and body and was left for dead. The police arrived the scene moments later, assuming he was dead - they called for the Morgue Wagon. A policeman heard him gasp for air, on their way to the morgue and quickly made straight for the hospital. After he'd been placed on a gurney the nurse shrieked in horror. This young man no longer had a face. His eye sockets smashed, his skull, and limbs fractured, his nose literally hanging from his face, all his teeth were gone, and his jaw almost completely torn from his skull. Although he survived, he spent over a year in the hospital. When he finally left, his body had healed, but his face was a MESS. It was disgusting to look at. He no longer bore any semblance of the handsome youth he once was. He went from being admired by everyone to being rejected by everyone. He was turned down by everyone, because of the way he looked when sought for a job. Many made fun of him. One potential

ALPHABETS OF WISDOM 4

"Bad times have a scientific value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

AOW 4
Life is replete with both good, as well as the not so good experiences. And sometimes it throws in some bad ones too, but don't fall down and die when it happens. Instead apply it as lotion, on your skin when it does and move on. Try to see the hilarious side of every experience. It's there. Try to:

R: RELAX - Relax and refuse to let worry and stress rule your life. Remember, things always have a way of working out in the end.

S: SHARE - Share your talent, skills, knowledge, and time for the good of others. Anything you invest in others will return to you many times over: pressed down, shaken together and running over.

T: TRY - Even when your dreams seem impossible to reach, try anyway. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish by trying.

U: USE - Use your gifts to the best of your ability. Wasted talent has no value, but one utilized properly will bring unimaginable rewards.

V: VALUE - Value people - friends, family, etc. - who support and encourage you. Try to be there for them as well.

ALPHABETS OF WISDOM 2

"...and the reason the windshield is large and the rear view mirror small is because your past is not near as important as what's in your future." - Joel Osteen

Most people tend to drive forward, looking back and this usually results in casualties. It's not supposed to be so. We continue "Alphabets of Wisdom" from yesterday, beginning with letter G, today.

G: GROW - Leave the childhood mannerisms and monsters behind. They can no longer benefit, hurt you or stand in your way.

H: HOPE - Hope for the best as you strive to move ahead. Remember that ANYTHING is POSSIBLE as long as you remain dedicated and determined.

I: IGNORE - Ignore the negative voices: inside your head and around your life. Focus on your goals and remember that your past successes, are only a tiny aspect of what the future holds.

ALPHABETS OF WISDOM

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." - Audrey Hepburn

Wisdom
There's so much wisdom everywhere for every situation sometimes, when we take the time to look into the happenings around us. For instance, take a look at the meaning of the following. Quite insightful.

A: ACCEPT - learn to accept others for who they are and for the choices they make even though you have difficulty understanding them.

B: BREAK - Break away from everything that stands in the way of you accomplishing your dreams and/or goals, so you can make a mark with your life.

C: CREATE - Create a family of friends with whom you can share your fears, dreams, sorrows, and happiness.

D: DECIDE - Decide that you’ll be successful and happy irrespective of what happens, and that good things will find you, roadblocks are only minor obstacles along your path.

THE WOUND, OR THE WARMTH?

"A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably." - William Penn

No man is an Island. A tree cannot make a forest. No one can become anything significant in isolation. Without the team, there cannot be that outstanding player. Ronaldo, Messi and the great names in the soccer hall of fame wouldn't be where they are today by themselves. They need the support of team mates.

It was probably the coldest winter ever: many animals had died, the cold was unbearable. The hedgehogs, realizing the situation, grouped together to keep warm. By this they covered and protected themselves sharing body heat to keep warm but the quills of each one wounded their closest companion. After awhile, they decided to leave a little distance between themselves - one from the other - but they began to die. Freezing. They had to make a choice: stick with the injury from the next animal and stay alive and warm or die from cold and comfort. So, they learned to live with the little wounds

DRIVE IN

"It is the neglect of timely repair that makes rebuilding necessary." - Richard Whately

Service
Have you ever driven your car, and all of a sudden you start noticing irregular sounds from the engine, and you wonder, "What in the world can that be?" You wonder, because you didn't expect it to do anything else but function optimally. As a result the next thing you consider - if the sound continues - is to place a call across to your mechanic. If your car is very useful to your daily routine, then for most people taking it to their local mechanic regularly for "check-ups" isn't an option, if they don't want to wake up one morning to find it completely non-responsive. It could get to that point if it is unattended to for a long time.

Whoever thought of the invention called, vehicles must have been endowed with so much insight into the need of man, because having a functional car is a NECESSITY, not a LUXURY, and so it has to be serviced regularly so it can continue to serve diligently. Using your car only, with regularly check-ups is inadvertently calling for a dismal disappointment when you least expect it.
