"Commitment is an act, not a word." - Jean-Paul Sartre
When Julius Caesar landed on the shores of Britain with his Roman legions, he took a bold and decisive step to ensure the success of his military venture. Ordering his men to march to the edge of the Cliffs of Dover, he commanded them to look down at the water below. To their amazement, they saw every ship in which they had crossed the channel engulfed in flames. Caesar had deliberately cut off any possibility of retreat. Now that his soldiers were unable to return to the continent, there was nothing left for them to do but to advance and conquer! And that is exactly what they did.
People are usually ecstatic on the stands during football matches involving their teams,
against fierce opponents. During the match, it's easy to be emotional about the referees decisions, but after, no one even remembers that there was a referee. You must get involved to have an impact. John H. Holcom said, "No one is impressed with the won-lost record of the referee."
Having got to the shores of Britain with your arsenal in life's battle, burn your ships if you're to survive this battle of destiny. Cancel every thought of retreating. Life will get so hard, friends will pull the rug from under your feet, opinions will come - good and bad - but in all, commit, decide and allow God help you succeed. Don't give up on that Word you've heard from Him. He's with you, don't despair, just trust Him to see you through. In the end you will only remember the victory, not pain that was just the referee. You're not fighting for victory, you're fighting from victory...only endure to the end.
Let us pray: Father, my heart is overwhelmed, help me, in Jesus name.
