"If you don’t live for something you’ll die for nothing." - Unknown
When it was built for an international exposition in the last century,
the structure was called monstrous by the citizens of the city, who
demanded it be torn down as soon as the exposition was over. Yet from
the moment its architect first conceived it, he took pride in it and
loyally defended it from those who wished to destroy it. He knew it was
destined for greatness. Today it is one of the architectural wonders of
the modern world and stands as the primary landmark of Paris, France.
The architect, of course, was Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. This famous
tower was built in 1889.Tradition holds that the Apostles died for their belief amidst fierce criticisms, and rejection. Like the Eiffel tower, the Apostles were rejected. Mark died at Alexandria, after being dragged through the streets of that city. John was put in a pot of boiling oil, but escaped death in a miraculous manner. He was then banished to Patmos. Peter was crucified at Rome with his head downward. James, the Less, was thrown from the pinnacle of the temple, and then beaten to death with a fuller's club. Andrew was bound to a cross, he continued to preached to his persecutors
until he died. Thomas was run through the body with a lance at Coromandel. Jude was shot to death with arrows. Matthias was first stoned, and then beheaded. Paul, after various tortures and persecutions, was at last beheaded in Rome by the Emperor Nero.
Fierce criticism or rejection in your life is not a sign that God isn't with you. As a matter of fact, lack of it should be a sign. Jesus was rejected, and is still being rejected today. People have died to defend their faith, because they believed. What about you? We, as Christians have to get to the point where we will gladly face rejection or death - if need - be to defend our faith. Christ is real.
