Martin Luther King Jr (1929-1968) lived and died to see society get transformed. In 1964, he became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end social segregation and discrimination. In one of the greatest and most quoted speeches of all time he spoke of his dream of one day living in a nation where his children would be judged by the content of their character, and not by the colour of their skin. He spoke of his 'dream that one day (that) even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of
injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice'. He dreamt of a time when everyone would be able to join hands and say, 'Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'
As Christians we are blessings to our nations: God strategically placed us there as change agents to bring about His change. We should let our lives influence godly not only our own family and local community, but also our city, and the whole nation. Presently, the nation needs our impact - we're salt and light - for the desired transformation. Only God can cause the desired change - through us - not the government. Let your voice be heard!
