Like blind Bartimaeus, many of us wake up to life and find that life
has happened to us. We come to notice that our circumstances are the way
they are, not because we chose for them to be so, but because it just
happened and we had no choice, but God is on your path today.
Nicky Gumbel narrates this story in Bible in one year 2016. Pippa and I (Nicky Gumbel) met Ah Yin when we visited Jackie Pullinger's work in Hong Kong. He had become a drug addict as a teenager. His father was an addict. He was brought up in the notorious Walled City. He joined a gang at the age of eleven. They ate, stole and fought together. They took heroin together. At the age of fourteen,
he got caught doing a robbery and spent his first time in detention. Over the years he tried everything to get off drugs. Nothing worked. Then he met Jackie and, through the power of Jesus, came off drugs with no pain at all...He has trained many people to pray for the sick and to work with the poor. He is one example of the millions of people who Jesus has delivered from addiction and set free.
The arm of flesh will always fail. Has life happened to you, by no fault of yours whatsoever and you have noticed an addiction, that like Ah Yin you've been unable to get rid of yourself? God is here NOW. He's willing to deliver you from that addiction this morning. Is it masturbation, fornication, lying, stealing, sleeping, eating, gossip? Whatever it is, there is power available to deliver you NOW!
Let us pray: Father, deliver me from (name it) now, in Jesus name.
