THE GIFT OF A DAY (15) WHAT'S YOUR BIG PICTURE? II

"You may have a million reasons not to get started TODAY. But deep down, none of them can be as compelling as your desire to change, grow, and succeed. In a month or a year or five years from now, you may have only one regret - that you didn’t start today. Today matters. The way you spend today really can change your life...positively or negatively" _ J.C Maxwell

Big Picture
Someone once defined hard work as the accumulation of the easy things you didn’t do today - when you should have - but left it till tomorrow. Life becomes hard or difficult when we neglect, or procrastinate on the little, easy, and important things to a later day; this seems to add to the burden of tomorrow before it even gets here. A decision taken today might be painful, inconvenient or embarrassing but years later while enjoying the fruits of that decision, you'll forget the pain and discomfort you felt taking that decision. On the other hand a decision NOT TAKEN today might seem exciting, wise or fulfilling, but years later when the pain of not taking the decision years before envelopes you...you'll look back and curse yourself for having procrastinated.

Looking into her locker, she couldn't remember anytime when the lonely, empty space staring at her now (as she opened her locker) had been filled with beverages...even though her bunk mate's locker had never been empty. Ever! She couldn't remember anytime when, Adaeze's locker had been empty. Never! Not even when they were leaving for holidays at the end of the school term.

Beauty, was in a class penultimate her final class and soon she'll be required to pay some money for her final exams, and the time was fast approaching, like fire spreading in a bush in the dry harmattan season. She couldn't remember the last time she had money that was hers, it'd been so long that she'd almost forgotten the colour of what money looked like. However, Beauty had a bigger issue to deal with; her younger sister, was soon going to be promoted to her next class, requiring her to pay so much money. Beauty, would be required to some money as well. There was only one option, one of them would have to drop out of school for the other. The question still was "drop out and get the money for the other from where?". With all these thoughts fighting for attention in her little head, she leaned back from her squating position, siting on the cold floor. She'd decided to drop out so her sister could continue. Instead of returning the following term she went away to serve at her friend from school's home, as a maid. Her big picture? To become a talk show star...has she gotten her dream today? YES she has. She looks back today and is glad she didn't procrastinate when she had to decide.

Today matters and we can't' afford to keep pushing our Today decisions till tomorrow. It might be painful today, but you'll see it was worth it years later.
