FINISHING STRONG, 9: PAY YOUR DEBT

"The speed of your success is limited only by your dedication and what you're willing to sacrifice" - Nathan W. Morris

You must have come across the phrase, "A promise made is a debt unpaid", well The 9th P, of the the "Finishing Strong" series, stands for PAY.

You ask "What shall I Pay?", The answer is "YOUR DEBT", again you say, "I don’t owe anyone". I'll explain. It may be true that you owe no one in terms of cash or material possessions, but permit me to announce to you that you are a promise made to your generation. You did not just appear upon the earth, you were specifically sent to be an answer to a question. The solution to a problem. You owe your generation a debt of service, one that you must pay.

During World War II, England needed to increase its production of coal. Winston Churchill called together labor leaders to enlist their support. At the end of his presentation he asked them to picture in their minds a parade which he knew would be held in
Piccadilly Circus after the war. First, will come the sailors who had kept the vital sea lanes open. Next, the soldiers who went from Dunkirk to defeat Rommel in Africa. Following them, will be the pilots who had driven the Luftwaffe from the sky. Finally, coming in the rear, he said, will come a long line of sweat-stained, soot-streaked men in miner's caps. Someone would cry from the crowd, "And where were you during the critical days of our struggle?" And from ten thousand vocal chords, would erupt the answer. "We were deep in the earth with our faces to the coal." Not all the roles are prominent and glamorous, but all are require.

Some people owed their generation the debt of inventing the light bulb like Thomas Edison, others owed their generation the debt of putting man in an airplane like the Wright Brothers. Yet others pay the debt of composing great symphonies like Beethoven. The question is what do you owe your generation? Whether your debt to your generation is termed great or little, it is part of the grand plan of God. As Winston Churchill said, "It is often the people with their faces to the coal" who help the world accomplish its mission.
